My Favourite Books of 2018

This year was not such a good year for me reading wise. I barely finished my Goodreads goal of reading 50 books and more than not, the books I would read I was not feeling them, did not find them interesting and would either lose interest really quickly and stop reading that book or I would peer through and not really like it, thus giving the book a lower rating. it could be that I was kind of in a reading slump and nothing was really interesting... I blame Kingdom of Ash! but in all fairness I was kind of a slumpy reader this whole year. I am wishing and hoping that in 2019 I read more books that I like and enjoy them. I am also looking forward to the releases in 2019, there are so many good ones I am just beyond excited! I will be doing monthly releases on my blog so you can stay tuned to see what to look forward to the following month!

wow I really rambled on... anyways, lets get on with some of my favourite reads of 2018.

34726469The first book that blew me away this year was The Sky in The Deep by Adrienne Young. This is a Young Adult fantasy book where it is described as "Part Wonder Woman, part Viking - and all heart" Let me just say that this book blew away all my expectations, when I picked this book up I did not really care to digest the blurb, it said it was a fantasy book and I was sold! I already have a review on this up on my Goodreads so I won't say much other than I love EVERYTHING about this book and considering I had low year with the majority of the books being a 3 or less, this should really mean something.

My Rating: ★★★★★

29779231The next book I read well listened to as an audiobook was When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. This book, the story, the way it was told on audiobook, it made me feel all the feels. I literally cried so hard when I finished this book, I really can't explain what was going through my head when I finished it but what I can say is that I absolutely loved this book and I was a sobbing mess by the end. Definitely one of my favourite non-fiction books I have read.

My Rating: ★★★★☆

21422225Furthermore, I also read The Queen of All That Dies by Laura Thalassa. This book blew me away, it was everything that I wanted but did not expect. I went into this book partially blind and did not really know what it was about other than the genre of the book which gave me some clues as what to expect in the book. Sadly I have only read the first book, scared to continue but really wanting to, so hopefully in the new year I can finish this series because this first book was everything that I was not expecting to receive in a book.

My Rating: ★★★★★

34330946The next book I read was Stygian by Sherrilyn Kenyon. According to Goodreads this is the 27th book in the dark hunter series. and can I just say that is such a long time to wait to receive your favourite characters book! but never the less, this book was amazing and I am just very happy with the ending that the main character received. although I wished that there was more of him and the heroine just doing domestic stuff because I have WAITED forever for his book and I want MORE. but I guess that's my problem, but I am excited to see him in further books.

My Rating: ★★★★★

31450852The second to last book that I absolutely loved was Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas. I was not expecting to like this story to be honest. when I first herd about a Chaol novella I was like okay cool, but then I herd it was going to be almost 700 pages and I was so confused? why did Chaol get a 700 page book. I didn't read it until a year later when Kingdom of Ash was going to be rebased did I then pick it up and tried to read it. That was the best decision because this new world of Antica that Miss Maas created was wonderful and beautiful. I loved all the new characters introduced and the royal family was great. I loved Chaol's journey of healing and his healer Yrene was a strong willed female character that I absolutely adored. Even more so in Kingdom of Ash!

My Rating: ★★★★★

33590260And the final book I read which I absolutely adored and loved and cried and died a little inside was Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. I am just going to say that I loved this book and that is it. oh and I cried... I was an emotional wreck after reading it and I had a reading slump because all I wanted to do was re-read the series and stay with these amazing characters! I am so going to miss this series and these amazing, wonderful characters and hopefully we get to see more of them in the future!

My Rating: ★★★★★

So these were all my five star favourite reads of 2018 - except for 'When breath becomes air' but I made an exception for that book!
What are your favourite books of the year and what books are you excited for in the new year?
